The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has temporarily shut down the operations of the China Union Company for violating the Environmental Law of Liberia.
The incident that occurred today is predicated upon the Institution’s refusal to adhere to basic environmental policies laid down by the EPA. The notice of violation was served to China Union by EPA Manager for Compliance and Enforcement John Jallah.
During the closure, EPA, among other things, outlined China Union’s inability to obtain an environmental permit relative to its extension of operations.
Speaking with Verity News, EPA Executive Director, Dr. Emmanuel Urey Yarkpawolo, said, “No company is above the law under President Boakai. No business as usual. The EPA will continue to enforce the Environmental Protection and Management law of Liberia.”
