The Executive Director of the Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL), Mr. Anderson Miamen, hosted a press conference on September 3, 2024, to discuss CENTAL’s stance on the recent appointments made by the President of the Republic of Liberia affecting the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC).
This announcement came after President Boakai “handpicked” a few individuals who were not part of the vetting process.
On August 29, 2024, the President appointed five individuals: Cllr. Sundaway E. Nelson Amagashie, Cllr. Vincent Smith, Ezekiel Nyuma, Morris Davis, and Marcus C. George.
According to the Executive Director, only two people from that list actually sat for and passed the test, and only one attended the interview.
However, it came as a shock to CENTAL that the names sent to the President were not the people who were appointed.
As the name CENTAL suggests, they value transparency and accountability in everything, hence their decision to warn the President to recall his appointments.
Out of the names mentioned, only Ezekiel Nyuma and Cllr. Sundaway E. Nelson Amagashie sat for and passed the aptitude test and were recommended for interviews.
However, Cllr. Sundaway E. Nelson Amagashie did not attend her interview and was ruled out. Regardless, she was still appointed prior to that decision.
CENTAL has expressed disappointment over the lack of transparency regarding the entire appointment process.
They view this as a serious discouragement to the 84 participants who went through the vetting process, only for others to be “handpicked.”
As a result, CENTAL has called on President Boakai to recall his appointments and demonstrate transparency, as indicated in his ARREST Agenda.
