The former Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate has vowed to proffer a bill, establishing a national sports academy.
This is coming at a time when Liberia, especially the national men’s team continues to suffer repeated defeats.
The bill targets major sports programs in Liberia, including football, kickball, and basketball. Making the disclosure, the former Senate Pro-Tempore said Liberia has talents that need to be assisted through sports development.
According to him, his bill will include proper strategies and programs that will be intended to build the capacity and livelihood of Liberians who are dreamers and participants of sports, mostly athletes.
His proposed bill will lead the path for young people to be encouraged in pursuit of their ambition in the arena of sports.
Sports lovers including pundits continue to voice out the need to develop sports, a path the Grand Kru County lawmaker is venturing into.
Globally, many countries are investing into sports and getting millions of dollars in return.
Liberia will be of no exception to develop and invest, exerting more energy, effort, and resources into sports to build the capacities and harness the talents of Liberian athletes, if this bill is passed.
Recently, Liberia men’s national team couldn’t hold unto a win even on its own home pitch, a devastating situation that many remain frustrated about.
Both the national and club teams in Liberia continue to suffer from defeats due to lack of support and willingness from national leaders.
But in the coming months or years when the proposed bill is passed, Liberian citizens most especially athletes and sports fans would witness a new turn of events for the country’s sporting sector amidst global competition.
