The Liberia National Police has charged six former Executive Protection Service (EPS) officers with multiple crimes and forwarded them to the Monrovia City Court.
The crimes include Criminal Conspiracy, Physical Obstruction of Government Functions, Reckless Endangerment of another Person, Rioting, Failure to Disperse, Disorderly Conduct, and Obstructing other public passengers.
Isaac Karmoh, Emmanuel T. Barclay, Aaron Panmelen, Sensee Swary, Melissa Henry, and Aloysius S. Benda were among those arrested and forwarded to the Monrovia City Court.
According to the Police charge sheet, the defendants were arrested on October 16, 2024, between the 14th and 15th streets of Sinkor, Monrovia.
Police investigation revealed that on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, a team from the Police Support Unit (PSU) responded to the Ministry of Justice, where a group of ex-EPS gathered in demand of their alleged six months’ salaries and benefits owed by the Ministry of Justice.
It was established that the leadership of the aggrieved ex-EPS officers met with Justice Minister Cllr. Oswald Tweh.
The investigative findings disclosed that during the meeting with the Justice Minister, the aggrieved dismissed officers were informed through their leadership that all of the paperwork leading to the payment of their salaries and benefits was completed and forwarded to the Ministry of Finance for approval.
Upon hearing this news, the leadership of the ex-EPS officers went back to brief their members, at which point they got angry and started to set roadblocks on the various street corners in Sinkor.
The investigation concluded by charging the defendants with multiple crimes which are in violations of Chapter 10, Section 10.4, Chapter 12, subchapter A, section 12.1 and Chapter 14, subchapter B, section 14.23, all of the criminal procedure laws of Liberia
The defendants have been sent to the Monrovia Central Prison pending a Court trial.
