The administrative personnel along with other legislative staffers at the House of Representatives have been warned not to interfere with the internal political wrangling that the House of Representatives is currently faced with.
Making the statement was embattled House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa who has vowed to administer harsher punishment against those involved.
“The Staff should be aware that they cannot get involved in members’ dispute. There will be consequences”, the Speaker noted.
He made the statement at the opening of the pro-Koffa bloc session which failed to reach quorum on Tuesday, October 22.
Meanwhile the Speaker reiterated their rules, indicating that plenary is the highest decision-making body.
Speaker Koffa stated there is no provision in their rules giving rise to majority members to have session without the leadership which specifically comprised of the Speaker and the Deputy.
He said: “There is no provision that gives a certain member the right to call a session at any place or any venue when he or she has the majority of lawmakers to make decisions”
According to Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa such act is not in accordance with the law and will not be tolerated.
The Lawmaker who heads the 55th House of Representatives and the Legislature at large has also vowed to resist opposing forces plotting to remove him as speaker.
“We I’ll resist that to the letter, in a bold and confident manner,” Speaker Koffa stated.
He calmed that his stance is not aimed at opting for position, but to set precedent for the law to be abided by.
He furthered that the law should be applied, adding that whatever the consequences would be, all lawmakers will live with it.
“No one is fighting for position here, but we must abide by the law and what the results or consequences the law has, we all will live with it” he indicated.
