Opposition CDC Accuses Ruling Party of Supporting Constitutional Violation

The opposition Congress for Democratic Change, CDC, has accused the ruling Unity Party (UP) of supporting what it believes to be a violation of the constitution.

The former ruling Party’s statement comes in the wake of the ongoing political headache the House of Representatives faces. The CDC laments that the “forceful and illegal” attempts to remove Speaker Fonati Koffa lack legal and constitutional backing.

The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) accused the Unity Party of heavily supporting lawmakers to oust Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa.

CDC believes the ruling Unity Party’s failure to take drastic steps against UP lawmakers who opted to remove House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa illustrates the Party’s complacency and direct involvement in what they termed the Speaker’s coup.

As it takes, 43 out of 73 Lawmakers, including the CDC Deputy Speaker, are camping at a local Hotel in Paynesville, pushing to remove the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Eleven lawmakers who want to remove the Speaker are from the Opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC). The CDC has since suspended all Lawmakers involved, including Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah.

“You can see glaringly how Unity Party is removing our Speaker because they have refused to take action against their Lawmakers involved in the removal efforts of the Speaker,” Swen stated.

He pointed out that the Ruling Party’s refusal to act against its renegade Lawmakers who are opting to oust the Speaker undermines the Government and Liberia’s peace and stability.

Swen asserted during the CDC “Martyr’s Day” celebration in District # 15, Logan Town.

According to the opposition Party’s Secretary General Jefferson Koijee, who also attended the event, the day was set aside to celebrate partisans who lost their lives in a bloody clash between State Security and CDCIANS on November 7, 2011, at CDC Headquarters.
