Health Professionals Demand Urgent Implementation of Pay Grade Policy

The Assembly of Liberian Health Professionals has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the government, demanding the immediate implementation of the Health Sector Pay Grade and Salary Reclassification Policy.

During a press conference on December 5, 2024, Assembly leader Theophilus T. Tamba and other members underscored urgent health reform in the health sector, citing long-standing pay disparities undermining healthcare delivery and staff retention.

Tamba acknowledged the government’s recent salary increase as a positive step but stressed that it does not address the underlying issues of inequity in the healthcare sector.

The Health Sector Pay Grade and Salary Reclassification Policy, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other key stakeholders, has yet to be fully implemented despite being validated.

“The current pay structures create inequities among healthcare workers,” Tamba said, noting that these disparities demoralize workers and negatively impact the quality of healthcare services.

The Assembly has warned that if the government fails to implement the policy within 10 days, further actions will be taken to ensure it upholds its commitment to the health workforce.
