GOL Certifies 10,000 Beneficiaries of Boakai’s National Digital Training Program

The Government of Liberia (GOL) has awarded certificates and recognition to 10,000 young Liberians who completed a nationwide digital training program.

The ceremony at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town highlighted the transformative impact of the initiative designed to empower the youth through digital education.

The program, launched as part of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s commitment to equip 10,000 youth with digital skills, reached participants across Liberia.

Beneficiaries received certificates of completion, with some honored for exceptional performance during the two-week training. Additionally, select participants were granted seed funding to support entrepreneurial ventures, fostering business and innovation skills.

This initiative stems from President Boakai’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA), where he outlined his vision to develop the nation’s digital capabilities. Although the original six-month timeline for the program was extended, by August 2024, youth in all 15 counties had undergone intensive training at 45 learning centers across the country.

The training focused on equipping participants with digital literacy skills to navigate modern applications and tools. With USD 250,000 in seed funding backing, outstanding participants were selected based on a rigorous vetting process. The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) emphasized the importance of collaboration among participants to foster innovation and excellence.

Launched in May 2024, the Digital Transformation Project marked a significant milestone in Liberia’s development. President Boakai highlighted Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a key driver of progress, potentially transforming education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship.

“This initiative is more than just a program; it is a vision for Liberia to embrace the digital age and thrive in a globally connected world,” President Boakai remarked. He emphasized the importance of digital innovation in overcoming traditional development barriers and advancing Liberia’s national agenda.

The program’s goals extend beyond digital literacy—its comprehensive approach aims to integrate technology into Liberia’s development framework. Graduates are encouraged to use their new skills to contribute to societal progress, promote economic empowerment, and address key sectors such as education and healthcare challenges.

As the Digital Transformation Project continues to shape the country’s future, participants are equipped with the knowledge and tools to excel in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. The initiative represents a bold step toward preparing Liberia for a technology-driven future, and President Boakai’s vision remains clear: “Think Liberia, Love Liberia, and Build Liberia.”
