Asphalt Pavement Works Begin on Freeport Corridor

The Ministry of Public Works, in partnership with local contractors, has officially launched asphalt pavement works along the Freeport corridor, a crucial route connecting multiple communities in Monrovia.

The project began in early November and marks a significant step forward in Liberia’s ongoing efforts to improve its infrastructure.

The asphalt work officially commenced on Sunday, December 16, with the first layer laid along the stretch from Freeport to the St. Paul Bridge. This critical corridor is a key link, providing access between various Monrovia communities and playing an essential role in moving goods and people within the capital.

Once completed, the project is expected to enhance traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve commuter road safety. It is also anticipated to bring long-term benefits to local businesses and residents, making travel faster and more efficient while fostering economic growth by connecting different parts of the city better.

MDMC, a Liberian-owned company based in Monrovia, is executing the project. MDMC is responsible for ensuring the timely and high-quality completion of the roadwork. The successful application of the first asphalt layer marks a promising start to this much-needed road upgrade.

The Ministry of Public Works has assured the public that this initiative will significantly enhance Liberia’s transportation infrastructure, contributing to the modernization of the nation’s road system. The Freeport corridor’s upgrade is part of a broader vision outlined in President Joseph Boakai’s State of the Nation address, where he emphasized the importance of road connectivity in his administration’s ARREST agenda. During his tenure, President Boakai pledged to ensure that no vehicles would be left stuck in mud on major roads.

The completed Freeport corridor is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, especially for residents of St. Paul Bridge, Logan Town, Caldwell, Bardnersville, Jimmy Cow Road, and surrounding areas. Commuters and locals alike hope the improved road will provide much-needed relief and improve their overall quality of life.
