LFA Condemns Violence at SKD Practice Pitch, Vows InvestigationĀ

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has strongly condemned the violent incident on December 14, 2024, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Practice Pitch following a First Division League match between Shaita FC and FC Fassell.

The altercation, which injured Alvin Gono, a Paynesville FC medical staff member, has sparked concern among football officials and fans alike.

In a press release on Sunday, December 15, 2024, the LFA expressed its deep regret over the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering an environment of respect, fair play, and unity in Liberian football.

The association emphasized that acts of violence have no place in the sport and that the safety and well-being of players, officials, fans, and all stakeholders remain the top priority.

“The LFA is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment in our football activities. Acts of violence like this undermine the core values of our sport,” the press release stated. The association further expressed disappointment that such an incident occurred during a match intended to bring people together and promote healthy competition.

The LFA announced that it would launch a comprehensive investigation into the incident, collaborating with relevant authorities and all parties involved to determine the facts surrounding the altercation. The association vowed that appropriate actions would be taken based on the findings and in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the Game to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.

“We appeal to all clubs, players, and supporters to uphold the principles of sportsmanship and mutual respect that define the beautiful game. Football is meant to unite us, and our collective responsibility is to ensure it remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone involved,” the LFA statement read.

The LFA’s commitment to promoting positive values in Liberian football remains steadfast, and it has urged all stakeholders to contribute to a safer, more respectful football culture. The association concluded its statement by reaffirming that football should continue to be a source of pride, inspiration, and enjoyment for all Liberians.
