Over Unpaid Stipends, Medical Students Protest at President Boakai’s Residence

Monrovia, Liberia – Hundreds of medical school students from the A.M. Dogliotti School of Medicine and Pharmacy staged a protest at the residence of President Joseph Boakai on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, demanding payment of their unpaid stipends.

According to verified documents, 440 students have not received their monthly stipends of US$200 since August 2024.

The demonstration comes at a time of growing discontent in the health sector, with medical doctors, pharmacists, and nurses also calling for a reclassification of their salaries to reflect the increasing economic challenges.

The situation highlights mounting frustrations within the medical community as they continue to work under difficult conditions.

The protesting students argue that the prolonged delay in stipends has placed significant financial strain on them, further complicating their ability to pursue their studies effectively.
