National Fire Service to Release Report on Capitol Building Fire

The Director General of the Liberia National Fire Service, Col. Warsumah Barvoul, has provided an update on the ongoing investigation into the devastating fire at the Capitol Building. During a press briefing at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT) on Thursday, Barvoul confirmed that the fire caused extensive damage, with the joint session hall of the Capitol being completely destroyed.

“The damage at the Capitol Building is very severe, with the joint session hall destroyed,” Barvoul stated. “Our investigation is ongoing, and we expect to provide a full report within one week.”

Barvoul also addressed concerns regarding the Fire Service’s capacity to respond to such incidents, revealing that efforts are being made to acquire modern firefighting equipment. He emphasized the need for improved resources to better equip the service to handle large-scale emergencies like the Capitol Building fire.

“We are working to acquire the necessary equipment to help us respond more effectively to fires,” Barvoul explained. “Having the right tools is essential to tackle such incidents in the future.”

The fire, which erupted on Wednesday, has raised widespread public concern, with many questioning its cause and its impact on the country’s legislative functions. While Barvoul refrained from speculating on the cause, he reassured the public that a thorough investigation is underway. He revealed that the Fire Service is collaborating with the Liberian National Police and the Environmental Protection Services to expedite the investigation.

Barvoul also confirmed that the firefighters who were injured during the response have since been discharged and are recovering at home.
