Monrovia – The Government of Liberia (GoL) is gearing up for the rollout of its second Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact following a recent high-level virtual discussion led by Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Hon. Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan.
The meeting, which brought together MCC Vice President for Compact Operations, Kyeh Kim, and Acting Country Director for Liberia, Jason Small, focused on strategic planning and leadership for the next phase of the compact.
Minister Ngafuan highlighted Liberia’s gratitude for its selection and extended President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s appreciation to the MCC and the U.S. Government.
Reflecting on the impact of the first MCC Compact, he highlighted transformative projects such as the restoration of the Mount Coffee Hydro Dam, the establishment of the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission, and efforts to rehabilitate water infrastructure in Monrovia.
Ms. Kim echoed her commitment to the partnership, noting strong support for Liberia during the MCC Board’s deliberations. “We’re excited to continue working with Liberia,” she remarked, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts for the compact’s success.
Looking ahead, Acting Country Director Jason Small is set to visit Liberia, with Vice President Kim planning a subsequent visit. These engagements will include consultations with senior government officials and stakeholders to advance the compact’s implementation.
