Defendant Alpha Maria, a resident of Wroto Town, Sinkor, has admitted to raping a 15-year-old minor, stating that he did not meet the victim as a virgin.
Defendant Maria asserted that he is an employee of the African Methodist Episcopal University as an Administrative Assistant.
According to the Police charge sheet, defendant Maria was complaint by a lady identified as Ruth Varney, who alleged that he raped her 15-year-old daughter in September of last year.
The victim also told police investigators that the defendant had sexual intercourse with her three times in his room and once in the hallway. She explained that after the third incident, she told him she no longer wanted to continue and asked him to stop, to which he agreed. In an exclusive interview with this newspaper, defendant Maria admitted to having sexual intercourse with the victim. He stated that when he met the victim, she was no longer a virgin and added that he stopped engaging in sexual relations with her in September 2024.
He further told Verity Newspaper that after the victim’s parents noticed her ongoing illness, she eventually revealed to them that she had been involved in a relationship with him. “I have my girlfriend living with me. I work as an administrative assistant at AMEU, and I believe God is guiding me. I regret my actions,” defendant Maria said.
Meanwhile, Maria has been charged with statutory rape under Liberia’s updated rape law. He is currently being held at the Monrovia Central Prison awaiting trial.
