Mulbah Morlu Launches Fierce Criticism of Boakai Administration

Civil Society Activist Mulbah K. Morlu Jr. has launched political tensions with a fiery statement denouncing President Joseph Nyumah Boakai’s administration. In a public declaration on Tuesday night, Morlu accused the government of being disconnected from the hardships faced by Liberians and preoccupied with trivial matters instead of addressing the nation’s pressing issues.

Morlu’s remarks reflect growing dissatisfaction among citizens and directly challenge President Boakai’s leadership. The former chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) lambasted the administration for its perceived failure to address Liberia’s deepening crisis. “Instead of focusing on the collapsing government, you’ve shifted focus to attacking me,” he said, accusing the administration of using “poorly trained propagandists” to undermine him.

He attributed this focus on his criticism to what he described as the administration’s fear of a growing reform movement. Morlu emphasized that his calls for change resonate with the Liberian people, whom he described as the trustworthy source of power in the country. He characterized the Boakai government as a “liability” to the nation, riddled with corruption and inefficiency, and predicted its eventual downfall. “The winds of change are inevitable,” he declared, pledging unwavering opposition to the current administration.

Morlu further underscored his commitment to nonviolent reform, asserting that the movement for change could not be suppressed by police tactics such as tear gas or other forms of intimidation. He called for meaningful transformation to steer Liberia away from its current trajectory.

In a pointed critique, Morlu mocked the administration over its absence at the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump, contrasting it with his own presence at the event. Delivered with biting sarcasm, his comments questioned the competence and credibility of Boakai’s government, further fueling the controversy surrounding the administration.

Morlu’s statement signals a new phase in Liberia’s volatile political climate, suggesting that he intends to be increasingly active in opposing the ruling establishment. According to Morlu, his message has gained traction among Liberians, creating a heightened urgency for reform.

Liberia faces noteworthy political, economic, and social challenges as President Boakai prepares for his second State of the Nation Address, scheduled for January 26, 2025. The speech comes amid heightened political tension, with some members of the 55th Legislature threatening to boycott the address.
