A Liberian Student Appeals for Support to Pursue Master’s Studies Abroad – A Step Toward His Ph.D. Dream

A Call to Sponsors, Academic Advocates, Student Activists, and Every Well-Meaning Liberian

As Liberia works to strengthen its healthcare system and nurture the next generation of leaders, one young Liberian stands out as a symbol of academic excellence and national hope.

Cyrus Foko, a committed and resilient student, recently earned his Bachelor of Science in Public Health from the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research in India.

His academic journey has been marked by perseverance, determination, and an unwavering desire to serve his country. Despite limited resources, Cyrus left Liberia to pursue higher education abroad, driven by a clear mission: to return home with the knowledge and skills to help reform and elevate Liberia’s public health system.

Today, that dream is within reach—but it now faces a financial roadblock.

Cyrus was recently awarded a partial scholarship through Edudite Consultancy Private Limited, a respected Indian-based organization that supports international scholars.

This opportunity has granted him admission to a master’s program in Public Health, a crucial next step toward becoming a key contributor to Liberia’s healthcare development and achieving his long-term PhD dream.

However, the scholarship does not cover all his expenses. Cyrus is required to pay $2,500 USD annually, which includes tuition, accommodation, meals, and essential academic services. Unfortunately, due to financial challenges facing his family back home, he cannot meet this cost alone.

“This is bigger than me,” Cyrus shares. “It’s about the many young Liberians who see education as a ladder out of poverty and a path toward transforming our nation. I want to return—not just as a graduate, but as a qualified public health professional equipped to make meaningful change.”

An Urgent Call for Support

This is a sincere appeal to sponsors and philanthropists who believe in investing in Africa’s future through education, academic institutions and faculty members who recognize the importance of supporting underrepresented and deserving students, and student unions and education advocates who promote access to education as a basic human right, as well as the Government of Liberia, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Health, who are tasked with building the nation’s human capacity.

He is also calling on all patriotic and well-meaning Liberians, both at home and in the diaspora, who believe that education is a key to national progress.

Cyrus is not seeking comfort or luxury-only the essential support to continue his studies and completes his master’s your contribution, no matter the size, could be the difference between a missed opportunity and a fulfilled destiny.
