Monrovia, Liberia ~ In a strongly worded statement that has sparked renewed political tension, former Montserrado County Representative and longtime CDC stalwart, Acarous Moses Gray, has vowed to make governance difficult for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, declaring that he does not recognize him as the legitimate leader of Liberia.
Speaking recently, Gray criticized what he described as deepening political divisions in the country.
“The country is divided in two. President Boakai is the President of the green, while President George Weah is the President of the blue. And I, Moses Acarous Gray, will give President Boakai a bitter Liberia. I will not recognize him as President,” Gray stated.
His comments come amid a politically charged atmosphere following the 2023 general and presidential elections, which saw former President George Weah defeated by Joseph Boakai in a tightly contested runoff.
Gray’s refusal to recognize the Boakai administration and his pledge to create a “bitter Liberia” has raised concerns about national unity, democratic maturity, and the rule of law. Political analysts warn that such rhetoric could undermine efforts at reconciliation and peaceful coexistence in a country still healing from decades of civil unrest.
As of press time, the Office of the President has not issued an official response to Gray’s comments. However, several civil society groups have condemned the remarks as irresponsible and called on political leaders to prioritize peace over partisanship.
Gray, a vocal and influential figure within the CDC, remains a key player in opposition politics and is widely known for his fiery speeches and unapologetic defense of his party’s ideology.
