Activist Condemns Prolonged Detention of Mary Boimah

Renowned Liberian activist Martin K. N. Kollie has strongly denounced the continued detention of Madam Mary P. Boimah, describing it as a blatant violation of her legal rights. In a press statement issued on April 2, Kollie called for her immediate release, accusing authorities of trampling on due process and using the justice system as a tool of intimidation.

Boimah was arrested following a writ issued by Stipendiary Magistrate Magdalene Peter on February 3, 2025, based on charges brought by the Government of Liberia and Salala Rubber Corporation (SRC). She faces accusations of criminal facilitation, criminal solicitation, criminal conspiracy, criminal mischief, and theft of property. Despite these being bailable offenses under Liberian law, she has remained in jail for over a month, with multiple attempts to secure her bail reportedly blocked.

Kollie described her prolonged detention as an act of injustice, arguing that justice must not be selective based on social class or political affiliation. “Ma Mary’s rights are being trampled upon. “The law is clear, bailable crimes must be treated as such,” he stated. He further accused the authorities of weaponizing the judiciary to silence individuals rather than upholding the rule of law.

While emphasizing that he does not condone violence against investment companies, Kollie maintained that legal rights must be upheld for all citizens, regardless of their background. He vowed to take action to ensure Boimah’s release, assuring Liberians, particularly residents of Margibi County, that she would not be left to suffer injustice.

“The law must be applied as it is. Bailable crimes are bailable. Free Ma Mary,” Kollie declared, reinforcing his demand for immediate intervention to prevent further legal infractions.
