AFL Patrols Garluwa District to Enhance Security and Build Local Confidence

On March 28, 2025, personnel from the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), part of Operation True Guardian, conducted a security patrol across Garluwa District in Grand Cape Mount County. The areas of Sinje, Fomba, and Bombo, which are primarily known for farming and local businesses, were the focus of the operation. The patrol aimed to maintain a strong presence, deter any potential threats, and provide reassurance to the local population by enhancing security measures in the region.

During the patrol, the AFL team also held a medical outreach initiative led by Warrant Officer (Medic) George Carroll. The medical outreach took place at the Sinje Town Hall, where locals were offered healthcare services as part of the mission to build trust between the military and the community.

The patrol team met with several community leaders, including Sinje Town Chief Adama Sonii, who also serves as the Inspector for Tradition and Culture in Bomi, Cape Mount, and Gbarpolu Counties. The delegation also engaged with former Representative Mambu Sonia of Grand Cape Mount County. During their discussions, locals expressed concerns about the lack of security since the removal of the police checkpoint in Sinje. According to residents, the absence of a constant law enforcement presence in the district has left the area vulnerable.

In response to these concerns, Lieutenant Sherif Ansu, who led the patrol team, recommended the reinstatement of security forces in Sinje District. Specifically, the team suggested that the Liberia National Police, Liberia Immigration Service, and the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency should have a permanent presence in the district to ensure security and provide stability to the local community.

The patrol and medical outreach serve as part of ongoing efforts to foster collaboration between the armed forces and the public, while simultaneously addressing the pressing security needs of the region.
