Africa CDC Appoints Liberian Public Health Expert Tolbert Nyenswah as Director for Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPPR)

Liberia is again making history as one of its sons has secured a high-level regional appointment after a competitive process at the African Union leading public health agency, Africa CDC.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has appointed Liberian public health professional, Dr. Tolbert G. Nyenswah, as Director for Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPPR).

Dr. Nyenswah was appointed in this senior role along with other leading public health professionals in Africa including: Dr. Tala Jallow of Gambia, Dr. Folake Olayinka of Nigeria, Professor Yap Boum II of Cameroon, Professor Aliko Ahmed of Nigeria, Dr. Thaddée Ndikumana of Burundi, Dr. Peter Kumpalume of Malawi among others.

According to an official press statement from Africa Centres for Disease Control (CDC), Dr. Nyenswah who led Liberia’s Ebola response and later served as founding Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, brings deep expertise in emergency management, surveillance and resilient health systems.
