A bill seeking to allow Black Americans to obtain Liberian citizenship has been forwarded to the House Committees on Internal Affairs and Judiciary for scrutiny.
The Plenary of the House of Representatives reached the decision Thursday, 5 June, during its 8th Day, sitting on of the 2nd Quarter of the 2nd session of the 55th Legislature.
The lawmakers’ decision was predicted on the submission of a Bill titled “An Act To Grant Eligible Black Americans Honorary Citizenship of Liberia” by Rep. Bernard Blue Benson of Electoral District 17 Montserrado County.
When enacted into legislation, it will provide economic boost in the tourism sector.
“This bill, if passed, will be an economic game changer for our country with the possibilities of attracting billions of dollars in our economy, especially our tourism sector”. Rep. Bernard Blue Benson stated in his communication.
Following the reading and floor debate on the instrument, the Plenary mandated the Committees on Internal Affairs and Judiciary to review the proposed law and advise the body in two weeks.
