Tensions flared at the Legislature on Tuesday as aggrieved employees of the Ministry of Transport (MOT) threatened to carry out a citizen’s arrest of Bong County District #2 Representative James Kolleh.
The confrontation stemmed from allegations that Rep. Kolleh ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives to detain a senior MOT official during a heated legislative session.
According to members of the protest group, the move was met with strong opposition from several lawmakers who demanded the immediate release of the director.
“We are here in peaceful protest, and now our director is being arrested without any legal basis,” said one protester. “If Representative Kolleh continues this abuse of power, we will take action, including effecting a citizen’s arrest.”
The demonstrators are part of a broader movement demanding a review of the controversial traffic management agreement between the Ministry of Transport and the Liberia Traffic Management (LTM) company.
Protesters allege the deal has resulted in harsh labor conditions, excessive penalties, and unjust treatment of drivers and MOT staff.
Calls for accountability have intensified in recent days, as the public grows increasingly concerned about the legality and fairness of the MOT-LTM agreement.
As of press time, Rep. Kolleh had not responded to requests for comment. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has opened an investigation into the agreement amid mounting public pressure.
