Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah has cautioned rubber sellers to avoid dealing with unregistered brokers operating under the guise of “Rubber Broker Associations.”
During the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing on Tuesday, Dr. Nuetah revealed complaints from rubber tappers about unauthorized individuals collecting illegitimate taxes from small-scale sellers.
“The government of Liberia does not recognize these associations. Farmers should avoid paying dues to these unregistered brokers,” Dr. Nuetah warned, urging rubber sellers to work only with two government-approved institutions to prevent exploitation.
In a groundbreaking announcement, Dr. Nuetah revealed plans to host Liberia’s first National Agricultural Fair in over 30 years.
The fair, set for Saturday, December 7, 2024, will be launched by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai under the theme “Promoting Agriculture for Food Security, Nutrition, and Sustainable Development.”
“This fair offers farmers a platform to showcase their products and an opportunity for Liberians to support locally grown goods,” Dr. Nuetah explained.
The event is expected to draw government officials, and the public, fostering support for local agriculture and food security initiatives. Dr. Nuetah called on Liberians to attend and contribute to the sector’s growth and sustainability.
