Monrovia – Prominent All Liberian Party member and former Montserrado County District #12 representative candidate, Cllr. Lafayette B. Gould Sr., has tendered his resignation from the party, sparking widespread public concern and speculation over his decision.
In his letter of resignation, Cllr. Gould expressed gratitude to the ALP for the opportunity to contest on its ticket during the 2023 general elections.
“Thank you for the confidence reposed in me to run as Representative Candidate on your ticket of the party during the 2023 elections,” he wrote.
Cllr. Gould, who has been a long-standing figure in Liberian politics, was nominated in March 2024 by President Joseph N. Boakai Sr. as Assistant Minister for Litigation at the Ministry of Justice ~ a position he currently holds.
While his letter did not state any reason for stepping down, political observers have described his resignation as a significant blow to the ALP, which continues to face internal challenges following the 2023 elections.
The All Liberian Party has yet to issue an official statement in response to Gould’s resignation. Meanwhile, Liberians have expressed mixed reactions, with some describing the move as a sign of shifting political alliances within the country’s opposition ranks.
