ANC Demands Immediate & Fair Investigation in CDC, Police Riot

The Alternative National Congress (ANC) says it unequivocally condemns the lawlessness and violence that erupted on Thursday, August 21, 2024 around the Congress for Democratic Change CDC) headquarters.

The party believes the  incident is a reminder of the dark days of the past, noting that Liberians must collectively ensure that the country does not slip back into the years of carnage and “gangsterism”.

In a release issued, ANC firmly believes that there is a better way to enforce the law and certainly a more constructive way to react to disagreements.

“Liberia is a nation for all its citizens, not just for CDCians or UP partisans. to engage in destructive confrontations. We must rise above partisan divides and work together for the greater good of our country.”, the Party says.

“We condemn the violence in the strongest possible terms and call on the government to act responsibly and fairly. It is imperative that an independent commission be instituted to investigate the fracas and make its findings known in the shortest possible time.”

ANC noted that citizens deserve transparency and accountability, and there must be consequences for such massive disruptions and the injuries inflicted upon “our people and our State”.

According to ANC, it stands with the victims of the Thursday’s violence and their families.

“We extend our deepest sympathies to those who were injured and affected by this senseless act. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time”

“Enough is enough. We cannot allow our beloved nation to be torn apart by violence and lawlessness”

The Party says it is time for all Liberians to come together and demand better from leaders and Liberians themselves.

“We must strive for a peaceful, just, and prosperous Liberia where the rule of law prevails and every citizen feels safe and valued”, the statement reads.

The party in the release stated  that it remains committed to working towards a brighter future for Liberia.

“We urge all political parties, civil society organizations, and citizens to join us in condemning violence and advocating for peace and justice”.
