The Alternative National Congress (ANC) has suspended three of its lawmakers and a senior party executive for a period of six months following a decision by the party’s Executive Committee.
In a statement released Wednesday, May 21, 2025, ANC announced the immediate suspension of Representatives Anthony Williams, Nathaniel Bahway, and Nyahn Flomo, along with Mr. Fubbi Henries, the party’s National Vice Chair for Finance & Investment.
The suspension, which will remain in effect until November 20, 2025, was enacted under Article 24, Section 5, and Article 26 of the ANC Constitution, which govern disciplinary measures within the party. According to the release, the decision was made by a two-thirds majority vote of Executive Committee members during a meeting held on May 20 at the party’s national headquarters.
The three lawmakers were cited for failing to appear before an investigative panel established to review their conduct during a recent impasse in the House of Representatives. The ANC says their actions during that period directly contravened the party’s official position and directives, constituting a serious breach of party discipline and unity.
Mr. Henries, though not a sitting lawmaker, was also found in violation of party standards, though the ANC did not disclose specific details regarding his infractions.
“No individual, regardless of position, is above the Party’s rules and constitution,” the ANC stated, emphasizing that the suspension bars the four from participating in any party activities at both the national and local levels during the sanction period.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to “democratic governance, transparency, and accountability” and said the move demonstrates its resolve to uphold internal discipline and constitutional order.
The suspension has sparked discussions among political observers about internal cohesion within the ANC as the party prepares for upcoming legislative engagements.
