Local Liberian border residents in Lofa county are accusing a group of armed Guinean soldiers of allegedly crossing over into Liberia and claiming parts of its territory according to them.
According to local residents who spoke to Verity News via telephone, the incident reportedly began on March 2, 2026, at the Sorluma border crossing. They alleged that the Guinean soldiers confronted workers from BK Enterprise and placed them at gunpoint.
“They are claiming about 1,000 kilometers of Liberia’s land, a portion of which includes part of Foya,” a local resident said. “The soldiers forced the workers to move across the border and seized equipment.”
Residents said the soldiers confiscated several pieces of heavy machinery, including bulldozers and dump trucks that were being used for the Foya–Vahun road and street pavement project. The project has reportedly been halted since the incident.
Multiple videos shared with Verity News appear to show rising tension in the border community.
“That flag has been there even during the Civil War,” a resident said. “Removing it emboldened the Guinean soldiers to move further inland.”
Residents said the Guinean delegation was led by Border Affairs Officer Mamadou Diarra.
Authorities, especially the Armed Force of Liberia, have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
