The Peace Community in Montserrado County was hit by armed robbery on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at about 3:00am according to multiple residents who were interviewed by Kool FM. The robbers did not just make away with valuables including cash, but they killed a man and severely injured a woman.
The injured woman, Matina Tokpa, was shot twice in her arm as she narrated her ordeal about what exactly happened. Tokpa said the robbers first tempered with their electricity connection (LEC current).
“…When they came at about 3:00am, they tempered with our electricity (LEC) connection. The light started going off and coming on. So, my fiancé said we should get out before our room catches fire. The moment we stepped out, the robbers started shooting and attacked my husband. I also got hit with bullets twice on my arm and had to roll in a drainage during this attack. They shot and killed my fiancé,” Tokpa explained.
Another survivor, only recognized as Lawrence, said that the police arrived on the scenes one hour thirty minutes after the incident. “I shouted for help, but every effort seemed fruitless. The robbers made away with over L$200,000 along with Lone Star and Orange GSM scratch cards from me.”
Amid public outcry against crimes such as armed robbery, Deputy Police Director, Cllr. J. Nelson Freeman, said that the police have reduced nighttime crimes even though he did not say to what extent.
A recent U.S. Embassy advisory said, “Violent crime, such as armed robbery are common in urban areas, crowded markets, and public beaches. Local police lack the resources to respond effectively to serious crimes.”
