Bad Borrower? Bukonjadeh Group of Companies to Take former Speaker Koffa to Court Over Refusal to Pay Debt

By Jeremiah Gayflor

A dossier of credit documents, copies of which are in possession of this paper, shows that the Administrative Assistant to former House Speaker Cllr. Fonati Koffa, Mr. Hilary S. Koffa, received US$12,500 as a credit from the Bukonjadeh Group of Companies.

Appearing on Punch FM this morning, the Company’s CEO, Mr. Elton Johns, alarmed about the deliberate refusal of ex-Speaker Fonati Koffa to pay back his debt.

In 2024, Cllr. Fonati Koffa took a loan of $12,500 from Bukonjadeh Group of Companies during the impasse at the House of Representatives. Since then, he has deliberately refused to pay back. Representatives Ellen Attoh and Dixon Sebo have intervened, but the former speaker has refused to pay, and this is causing serious setback to our business. In the coming days, we will take him to court,” CEO Elton Johns said.

In response, the former Speaker has said that he cannot remember borrowing money from the company.

“If he says I took money, he should have presented the transaction documents to authenticate his claim,” the former Speaker said.

Meanwhile, the company has shared transaction documents with Verity Newspaper, which shows that ex-Speaker Koffa’s administrative assistant received US$12,500 and agreed to pay back since August 16, 2024.

Multiple WhatsApp messages were also shared with this paper, including messages from Representatives Dixon Seboe and Ellen Attoh-Wreh who pleaded with the Company to give the former Speaker more time to pay back.
