Dr. Alfredson W. Taikerweyah, Sr., the President of Bong County Technical College (BCTC), has voluntarily remitted his February 2025 salary to the Government of Liberia’s account. The total amount returned includes L$211,360 (Two Hundred Eleven Thousand, Three Hundred Sixty Liberian Dollars) and US$2,516 (Two Thousand, Five Hundred Sixteen United States Dollars).
The decision follows the one-month suspension without pay imposed on Dr. Taikerweyah for his failure to comply with asset declaration requirements mandated by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. On February 12, 2025, President Boakai suspended over 450 senior government officials who had not declared their assets to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC).
Dr. Taikerweyah’s administrative assistant, Stephen B. Jeffrey, clarified in a Facebook post on March 21, 2025, that the suspension and subsequent salary remission were in line with the President’s directive. Although Dr. Taikerweyah’s salary was not initially withheld, Jeffrey explained that the president of BCTC decided it was the right course of action to return the funds, viewing the move as a demonstration of his commitment to transparency and accountability in public office.
Jeffrey emphasized that Dr. Taikerweyah believes strongly in ethical leadership and transparency, underscoring that this gesture reflects BCTC’s dedication to good governance. He also encouraged all public officials to embrace these values in order to maintain public trust and uphold the integrity of their roles.
