A report reached the Legislature reveals that Bea Mountain Mining Company in Grand Cape Mount has failed to comply with the Mineral Agreement it signed unto.
The National Legislature received the final report on the situation which gave rise to an uprising and protestation at Bea Mountain in Kinjor, Cape Mount.
The report filed by a joint committee on Security from both Houses highlighted recommendations with specificity on steps to fight the continued violation of the company mineral agreement.
The report triggered the House thereby summoning the Chief Executive Officer and top managers of Bea Mountain Mining Company (BMMC) to account for violating agreements with the Government of Liberia, which resulted in chaos.
According to the report, the Liberia National Police is poised to identify and hand over officers responsible for fatal shootings at the Kinjor protest site for swift arrest and prosecution, to demonstrate the government’s commitment to justice.
The joint committee recommends the resignation or transfer of the Country Manager of the Company in order to restore calm.
BMMC, if considered by the Legislature, will be made to identify and list qualified longtime contractors as employees within the company.
In its report, the joint committee is recommending that the institution submit employment records of top Liberian employees and allow an employee audit by the Ministry of Labor.
The recommendation calls for imposing fines on the mining company for violation-related matters including employment and permits.
Both Houses of Representatives and Senate joint committees are meanwhile calling for the entity to procure ambulances, upgrade health facilities, and provide medical supplies to address health issues in the affected communities.
