MONROVIA, Liberia — Musa Hassan Bility, political leader of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC), says the party does not intend to distribute cash to supporters but will instead focus on development initiatives and loan opportunities, particularly for women.
Speaking at a party engagement, Bility emphasized that the only direct financial assistance the party plans to provide will come in the form of loan programs for women, noting that the CMC is not in the business of giving out money to individuals.
“The only money the party can give is loan money for the women,” Bility said. “Other than that, we’re not in the business to give you money.”
He explained that resources raised by the party would be used for projects and activities that could support development within communities. According to him, if party resources can help improve communities, the leadership is willing to undertake such initiatives.
Bility also cautioned against distributing cash to local party leaders, warning that doing so could create competition and internal conflict among members. He noted that giving large sums of money to local officials could lead to accountability issues as funds move through different levels of the party structure.
“If you give the chairman $1,000 and travel across different places, by the time you return, you may not know what has happened to the money,” he said, stressing the need for transparency and unity within the party.
The CMC leader added that the party intends to support its structures in other ways, including providing vehicles for executives to use for party activities when necessary. He said such support would be organized at the executive level to ensure that resources are used strictly for party work.
Bility said the approach is aimed at preventing misunderstandings among members and maintaining discipline within the party as it continues to strengthen its political structure across the country.
