Margibi County – President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on December 20, 2024, inaugurated the construction of a state-of-the-art National Clinical Diagnostic and Treatment Laboratory near the EBK Military Barracks in Margibi County.
The groundbreaking ceremony marked a pivotal moment in Liberia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure. The project, a collaborative venture between the Liberian Government and the People’s Republic of China, stresses a shared commitment to improving public health services and addressing longstanding challenges in the nation’s healthcare sector.
The Chinese Government financed the facility and implemented it through China Aid Liberia. Once completed, it will provide cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment services to bridge the country’s healthcare delivery system gaps.

It is a beacon of hope and progress that will elevate the health and well-being of our citizens,” he said. The President also highlighted the broader implications of the laboratory, describing it as a testament to his administration’s dedication to enhancing the country’s healthcare system.

He lauded the partnership as a cornerstone of Liberia’s development and underscored the mutual benefits of such collaborations. “The friendship and cooperation between Liberia and China continue to yield meaningful results for our people,” he remarked, noting that the laboratory project is another example of this strong bilateral relationship.
The facility will serve military personnel and the general public, ensuring access to advanced diagnostic and treatment services for diverse populations. President Boakai praised the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia for their critical role in conceptualizing and supporting the project. “This laboratory will not only serve our armed forces but also become a vital resource for every Liberian needing medical care,” he stated.
The laboratory is expected to address critical gaps in public health and enhance the country’s response to medical emergencies. With its advanced capabilities, the facility will significantly improve the quality of care available to Liberians, offering a lifeline to those with limited options for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. President Boakai emphasized that the laboratory is a step toward achieving healthcare equity and improving overall health outcomes.
In addition to its immediate healthcare benefits, the laboratory symbolizes the Government’s commitment to nation-building. “This project is more than a ceremony; it is a promise that the health of our people remains at the top of our agenda. Together, we are laying the foundation for a stronger, healthier, and more productive Liberia,” the President assured the audience. He emphasized the need for collaboration and determination to ensure the project’s success.
The construction of the laboratory is expected to create jobs and provide opportunities for skill development within the local community.
