President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has announced a strategic reshuffle and a new appointment within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reassigning several assistant ministers in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s diplomatic service and enhancing coordination of its international engagements.
According to an official statement from the Executive Mansion, the changes affect key assistant ministerial portfolios and are part of ongoing efforts to improve professionalism and service delivery within Liberia’s foreign service.
Daniel Kokoi, who previously served as Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs, has been reassigned as Assistant Minister for International Organizations.
In his new role, he will oversee Liberia’s engagement with multilateral institutions and international bodies.
Leon Talery, formerly Assistant Minister for European Affairs, has been appointed Assistant Minister for International Cooperation.
He will now be responsible for coordinating bilateral and multilateral partnerships focused on development assistance and technical collaboration.
Naomi Gray, who previously held the International Cooperation portfolio, has been reassigned as Assistant Minister for European Affairs, where she will manage Liberia’s diplomatic relations with European countries and institutions.
In addition to the reshuffle, President Boakai appointed Jackie McCay as Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The portfolio oversees foreign service coordination and the welfare of Liberians abroad, supporting the work of the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The presidency said McCay brings extensive experience working with the Liberian diaspora and a strong understanding of the challenges facing foreign service personnel, shaped by years of living and working abroad.
President Boakai expressed confidence that the appointments and reassignments would strengthen institutional effectiveness within the ministry, enhance professionalism, and improve services to Liberians both at home and overseas.
He urged the newly appointed and reassigned officials to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, integrity and a commitment to national service.
The reshuffle comes as Liberia seeks to deepen international partnerships, attract investment and expand its engagement with regional and global institutions amid evolving geopolitical and economic challenges.
