Bong and Bomi Senators Reject Allegations of Plot to Remove Pro-Tempore

Bomi County Senator Edwin Snowe and Bong County Senator Prince Moye have strongly denied allegations of a plot to remove Senate Pro-Tempore Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence from her leadership position.

The two senators refuted claims suggesting that their colleagues are conspiring to oust the Grand Bassa County lawmaker. Their denials come amid growing speculation about internal divisions within the Liberian Senate.

Senator Snowe dismissed the allegations, echoing Senator Moye’s earlier rejection of the claims. Responding to a Verity News inquiry, Moye firmly stated, “Not true,” regarding reports of a planned removal.

Addressing the issue, Snowe emphasized that the Senate, known as the “House of Elders,” does not engage in clandestine efforts to undermine its leadership. He acknowledged disagreements with the Pro-Tempore may arise but insisted such matters are handled through internal consultations.

“There are times we may disagree, but when that happens, we go into our consultative meetings and resolve the matter there. We do not resort to underhanded tactics,” Snowe said.

He categorically denied reports that 17 senators had signed a resolution to remove Karngar-Lawrence, describing the claims as baseless.

“I can tell you today that no senator, not even one, has signed any resolution to remove the Pro-Tempore,” Snowe asserted.

Snowe also rejected suggestions that senators are secretly working to undermine the Senate’s leadership.

“We are not children to be manipulated into signing resolutions in secrecy,” he added.

The Bomi senator explained that when issues arise concerning the Pro-Tempore, standard procedure requires her to recuse herself while the Senate deliberates.

“If there is a concern involving the Pro-Tempore, we simply ask her to step aside while we debate. We don’t engage in childish behavior,” he remarked.

Senator Moye reiterated his position on Wednesday, once again denying the existence of any removal plan.

“Not true,” Moye reaffirmed when asked whether senators were seeking to unseat Karngar-Lawrence.

While some senators have yet to comment on the controversy, Verity News continues efforts to gather further responses from additional lawmakers.
