Monrovia, Liberia – Former Defense Minister Brownie Samukai has announced his intention to run as a senatorial candidate for Lofa County in 2029. Speaking on Spoon FM on Saturday, December 21, 2024, Samukai disclosed his plans, stating, “I will be a Senatorial Candidate in Lofa in 2029. I have already informed the people of Lofa County.”
Samukai previously contested the Lofa County senatorial by-election in 2020 as a candidate for the then-opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP). He emerged victorious with 20,431 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Independent candidate Cllr. Joseph Jallah, who garnered 13,968 votes.
Despite his win, Samukai was barred from taking his Senate seat due to a criminal conviction related to the mismanagement of soldiers’ private funds.
The announcement signals Samukai’s determination to reclaim his political footing in Lofa County and re-engage with the electorate who supported his 2020 bid.
