Monrovia, Liberia – Cllr. Charlyne Brumskine, former Vice Standard Bearer of Opposition Collaborating Political Party (CPP) has expressed deep concern over what she describes as a growing culture of disrespect toward the Supreme Court of Liberia.
In a passionate statement posted to her social media, Brumskine reacted to online discourse and political maneuvers that appear to undermine the Court’s recent ruling on the House of Representatives leadership dispute.“
Icannot believe what I am reading on Facebook,” Brumskine wrote. Cllr. Brumskine asserted that this is the depth to which the country has sunk, stressing that this does only makes Liberia bad but also the commander in Chief.“
This is the depth to which we have sunk? You are making not just Liberia look bad but our Commander in Chief look bad! Please stop it. For our children’s sake, STOP IT,” Cllr. Brumskine added. Her words have since sparked widespread reaction across the country, drawing support from citizens and fellow politicians who share her concern about the state of constitutional order.Brumskine’s comments come just days after the Supreme Court delivered a firm ruling intended to restore clarity and legality to the contested leadership shake-up within the House.
However, according to Brumskine, the reaction from some political figures and their supporters has turned what should be a moment of national unity around the rule of law into a divisive spectacle.
Political observers say Brumskine’s emotional appeal underscores a growing frustration among many Liberians who fear that the country’s democratic institutions are being eroded by political opportunism and public misinformation. As Liberia watches closely to see how lawmakers and the executive respond to the Supreme Court’s decision, calls like Brumskine’s highlight the urgent need for political maturity, national respect for judicial authority, and the protection of Liberia’s democratic legacy.
