Bernard Abraham Waritay, the Communication & Visibility Officer at the National Authorizing Office/MFDP, has revealed that contractors working on the Light Up South-East (LUSE) Program have kicked off the installation of concrete light poles in Buchanan. This project, funded by the European Union, aims to bring electricity to over 12,054 customers in Buchanan, 4,344 households in Greenville, and set up streetlights and solar home systems in Barclayville.
Waritay highlighted that the planting of the 300 light poles will pave the way for electricity provision through connections on both single and three-phase pre-paid meters in Buchanan. Additionally, the installation will encompass 500 streetlights, connecting numerous households, healthcare facilities, educational centers, institutions, and businesses in the area.
The LUSE Program is extending electricity to 4,344 households and setting up 200 LED streetlights in Greenville City via the construction of a Mini Hydro and a Solar Power Plant. In Barclayville, Grand Kru County, a Solar PV Plant and Mini-grid network will be established, along with solar home systems for surrounding regions.
With close to 1,500 concrete light poles, transformers, various cable types, conductors, and 500 LED streetlights already assembled in Buchanan, significant progress is being made towards bringing light to the city. Grand Bassa County Superintendent, Karyou Johnson, expressed gratitude for the project, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on the community that has long grappled with darkness. Johnson credited President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. for his leadership and the Grand Bassa Legislative Caucus for the unwavering support.
In closing, Superintendent Johnson urged the citizens of Buchanan to take ownership of the project, steward the materials provided, and offer support to the workers involved in illuminating Buchanan.
