Business Community Raises Alarm Over Alleged Substandard Products from Sethi Brothers Incorporated

Growing frustration is mounting among Liberian business owners and consumers over allegations that Sethi Brothers Inc., a prominent foreign-owned manufacturer operating in Liberia, is producing substandard construction and furniture materials.

Dominic Nimely, President of the Patriotic Entrepreneurs of Liberia (PATEL), has emerged as a leading voice criticizing the company’s products. Speaking during a recent appearance on Punch FM’s morning show, Nimely expressed serious concerns about both the quality and affordability of goods produced by Sethi Brothers.

“When you buy chairs from Sethi and sit on them, they break,” Nimely said bluntly, pointing to a recurring issue of poor durability in the company’s furniture. He emphasized that such problems are not just minor inconveniences but have real financial implications for Liberian consumers and small business owners who rely on these goods for everyday use and resale.

Nimely also criticized the company’s steel products, stating that imported steel rods previously available in the market were not only of better quality but also more affordable. “When we were importing steel rods into the country, they were cheaper and of higher quality. But now that Sethi is producing steel rods locally, the products are both substandard and expensive,” he added.

The comments from the PATEL president reflect a growing sentiment among local entrepreneurs who believe the current manufacturing standards fail to meet consumer needs and safety expectations. Calls are now mounting for increased regulatory oversight to ensure that companies operating in Liberia adhere to acceptable quality standards.

Up to press time, the management of Sethi Brothers Inc. hasn’t responded to the claim against the its entity.

Meanwhile, members of the business community are urging government agencies to investigate the matter and hold companies accountable for products that fall below market expectations.
