CDC 2023 Campaign Spokesman Admits Boakai Outshines Weah with Doe Reburial in Grand Gedeh

In a surprising turn of events, a prominent member of the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala, has publicly acknowledged President Joseph N. Boakai’s political triumph over former President George Weah in Grand Gedeh County.

Speaking candidly on social media, Gbala admitted that President Boakai had “eaten the show” over the CDC by successfully organizing the long-awaited state reburial of former President Samuel K. Doe and his wife, Nancy B. Doe ~ an event many believe the Weah administration failed to deliver despite strong expectations.

Former President Weah, who considered Doe a father figure, had often been called upon to lead efforts to honor past leaders with proper reburial ceremonies. However, those calls went largely unanswered during his time in office.

President Boakai, following the recent loss of Doe’s wife, reignited the initiative. On Thursday, June 26, he led a high-level government delegation to Grand Gedeh for the official reburial of the former president and first lady, fulfilling a long-standing plea from citizens of the county.

“This is something we could have done,” Gbala admitted online, referencing the CDC’s missed opportunity. His comments have since drawn attention across social and political platforms, given Grand Gedeh’s historic loyalty to Weah.

The county, once considered a stronghold for the CDC, now appears to be shifting its support, with local leaders and residents applauding Boakai for what many are calling a meaningful and dignified gesture toward honoring Grand Gedeh’s native son and his family.
