Monrovia, Liberia — In a bold response to a recent announcement from the Liberia National Police, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has expressed strong opposition to a planned invasion of its National Headquarters, set to occur on August 23, 2025. This date is particularly significant as it coincides with a mass meeting intended for party members and stakeholders.
The police’s announcement, made public on August 22, follows a court order on a dispute involving the party and its landlord. Social media reports indicate that several CDC members had been issued a warrant by law enforcement to cooperate with the order. In light of these circumstances, the CDC has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the rule of law, affirming that it will not succumb to intimidation or harassment from the Liberian government or the police force.
At the core of this situation is a civil matter currently under consideration by the Liberian Judiciary. The CDC reported that its legal representatives have filed appeals in two relevant cases before the Civil Law Court, presided over by The Honorable Judge George Smith. As of today, the party says bonds associated with these cases have been duly prepared and filed with the Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia, with the necessary parties having been adequately served.
The party is optimistic that a police invasion of their headquarters will not take place, as this matter remains a civil issue within the court’s authority. The CDC leadership has called upon all partisans to participate in the meeting scheduled for August 23 at their National Headquarters while urging them to conduct themselves peacefully.
Reaffirming its commitment to non-violence, the CDC condemned any attempts by the government to interfere with judicial processes. The party holds the government responsible for ensuring the safety of its supporters and the protection of its assets, which have been built over the past two decades.
