CDC Launches National Headquarters Construction Committee Amid Eviction Controversy

Monrovia, Liberia – Amidst the fallout from the recent demolition of its headquarters, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has announced the formation of a National Headquarters Construction Committee. The initiative, spearheaded by former President and CDC Standard Bearer George Manneh Weah, aims to fast-track the construction of a new party headquarters within one year.

The announcement was made through a press release issued by the Office of the Standard Bearer, detailing the names of 23 committee members tasked with overseeing the project. The committee will be chaired by former Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, with Senator Nathaniel F. McGill serving as Co-Chairman and Hon. Lenn Eugene Nagbe appointed General Coordinator.

Other members of the committee include:

Amb. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr. (Advisor),

Madam Yvette Freeman, Mr. Quiwu Pepci Yeke, Mr. John Youbuty (Treasurer), Dr. Marie Scott-Wilson, Mr. Kyne Oliver Kyne, Madam Ruth Cooker Collins (Technical Advisor), Mr. Yayah T. Sheriff and Famatta Wesseh (Secretary).

Others including: Mr. Emmanuel T. Swen, Cllr. Garrison Yealu, Jurah Sanoe, Mr. Roosevelt Johnson Jr., Mr. Michael Andrew Massaquoi, Mamina Carr Gaye (Youth League Representative), Sriyah Musu Isodjee (Women’s League Representative), Isaac Doe, Samuel A. Wlue, Manneh George, Ariminty Tubman and Abraham Askie.

The committee has been authorized to create sub-committees as needed and work collaboratively to ensure the successful and timely completion of the new facility. According to the statement, the party continues to receive “significant goodwill and support” in the wake of what it calls a “politically motivated action” against the party’s former headquarters.

To manage financial contributions to the project, a designated bank account will soon be opened, with full details to be publicly announced. The party plans to facilitate multiple payment methods to accommodate its supporters both at home and abroad.

In a related development, former President Weah has instructed CDC National Chairman Janga Kowo to hold a press conference to address what the party describes as “the disastrous invasion of the CDC headquarters by the government,” the “illegal abduction” of some partisans, and to provide updates on pending legal challenges currently before the Liberian courts.

The party’s leadership maintains that it will remain undeterred by the recent events and remains committed to rebuilding stronger.
