CDC Vows to Punish Lawmakers over Speaker Koffa’s Ouster

Shortly after the signing of the resolution, Opposition Political Party Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) had a major press conference condemning the actions action of some 47 Representative as unconstitutional.

Addressing the press in Monrovia at its Party Headquarters, CDC Acting Chairman Janga Augustus Kowo sent out a strong warning to CDC lawmakers who allegedly signed the resolution to remove the speaker of the 55th legislature.

“CDC lawmakers, that you have got the CDC to content with. Because we’re seeing a purported resolution circulating that some of our members have sighed. We want to call on you that let it continue to be a rumor; because the CDC will not take the situation lightly,” CDC Acting Chairman Kowo started in an angry tone while addressiang partisans.

Chairman Kowo vowed to deal with any CDC lawmaker who will sign the resolution to remove speaker J. Fonati Koffa.

The opposition CDC said they are going to firmly stand with speaker Koffa, noting that the party is going to support him.

“CDC stands by the speaker. We support him. This is why former president Weah has issued a strong statement condemning this unconstitutional action,” he asserted.

The opposition CDC is accusing the Unity Party-led government under President Joseph N. Boakai of using state resources to mastermind the removal of speaker Koffa.

“We think the Joseph Boakai government that is using state resources to influence this process should desist because this is an attempt to undermine the democracy. This is an attempt to undermine the rule of law; this is an attempt to threaten the fragile peace that we enjoy,” Kowo lamented.

For his part, Deputy House Speaker Thomas Fallah has distance himself from the signing of the resolution to remove House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa.

Though, it has been rumor that Deputy Speaker Fallh is allegedly sponsoring the removal of the speaker Koffa undercover.

Reports indicate that Deputy Speaker Fallah, a ranking member of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) is vying for the speakership position that’s why he is allegedly plotting to remove the current speaker.

“This is false. I did not sign any resolution. This is allegation. People always make allegations but they must come to prove their allegations,” Deputy Speaker asserted.

On early Thursday morning, Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah and the Chair on Rule, Order and Administration Melvin Cole all remembers of the CDC was seen nearing a fist fight at the capitol building.

Video footages revealed the two CDC lawmakers in a serious altercation in the Capitol building that nearly resulted into a fist fight between two ranking members of the 55th House of Representative.

The Lofa District #2 lawmaker dismissed allegations against him by Bong Representative J. Melvin Cole that the Deputy Speaker allegedly received some 1.5 million to plot the removal of the speaker, stressing that he is not going to dignify Rep. Cole allegations against him.

Deputy Speaker Fallah emphasized that he is going to sit and observe the process because the removal of the speaker is a legislative politic as such, where the major is, there were the decision will be, noting that their where he is going to play his leadership role.
