Outgoing Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Gyapay Yuoh officially retired from the Supreme Court on Friday, marking the end of a 12-year judicial career.
In her farewell remarks, she described her rise to Chief Justice as a defining moment, having assumed leadership during one of Liberia’s most politically charged election periods.
Justice Yuoh praised her colleagues for their dedication to upholding the rule of law and thanked them for their support throughout her tenure.
In return, the Associate Justices lauded her principled leadership and lasting impact on the justice system.
Her retirement comes after reaching the constitutional age limit, and the ceremony included the introduction of Chief Justice-designate Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, appointed by President Joseph Boakai.
The event drew members of the National Bar Association and judicial partners, though notably absent were representatives from the Executive and Legislative branches.
Justice Yuoh, Liberia’s second female Chief Justice, is widely credited for advancing judicial independence and reform.
Her tenure is remembered for its stability during turbulent times and unwavering adherence to the law.
