Citizens of Margibi County District #2 have expressed a mix of praise and criticism toward their representative, Ivar K. Jones, during a live radio broadcast in the county.
The interactive program drew several callers ~ ranging from strong supporters to vocal critics ~ who offered their perspectives on Representative Jones’ performance in office.
Representative Jones, first elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2023, is currently under increasing public scrutiny. While he was commended for initiating several developmental projects in the district, many citizens highlighted ongoing challenges and shortcomings under his leadership.
Albert Kolako, a staunch supporter, commended the lawmaker for his developmental initiatives. “The lawmaker has brought more development to this district, and we appreciate his leadership,” Kolako said. “We need to celebrate this lawmaker.”
However, amid these achievements, a number of citizens raised concerns about his leadership style and responsiveness to constituents.
“The lawmaker doesn’t respect his people,” said Daniel Vah, a caller. “Even though some of us didn’t vote for him, we are his employers and should be treated equally.”
Another caller, Samuel King, Jr., a former supporter of the Lawmaker, accused the representative of describing his citizens who offer constructive criticism. “One Daniel Johnson called to urge him to declare and publish his assets, but the lawmaker referred to him as ‘Liquor Talk’,” King claimed. “The lawmaker bullies his people when they make recommendations.”
Amid increasing scrutiny, some political pundits believe the criticism reflects a growing demand for transparency and engagement from local leaders. They say it may be time for Representative Jones to reevaluate his approach to governance and strengthen communication with his constituents.
