Civil Law Court Summons Bukonjedah Group of Companies CEO

The Sixth Judicial Circuit, Civil Law Court for Montserrado County, has issued a writ of summons against the Bukonjedah Group of Companies and its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Elton Johns, in an Action of Damages for Wrong filed by Representative J. Fonati Koffa of Montserrado County.

The summons, dated September 23, 2025, was issued under the signature and seal of Court Clerk Victor G. Gailor. It mandates the defendants to appear before Resident Circuit Judge J. Kennedy Peabody during the Court’s December Term.

According to the writ, Mr. Johns—along with the Bukonjedah Group of Companies—must appear on the third Monday in December 2025 at 10:00 a.m. to formally respond to the complaint brought by Rep. Koffa.

The court document instructs the Sheriff of Montserrado County, or their deputy, to serve the summons and notify the defendants of the pending legal proceedings.

Failure to appear or respond, the Court warns, will result in a default judgment being rendered against the defendants.

In addition, the defendants are ordered to file their formal appearance and/or legal answer on or before October 3, 2025, or risk further legal penalties for non-compliance.

Rep. Koffa, a practicing attorney and prominent lawmaker representing Montserrado County, alleges that the company and its CEO committed a civil wrong for which he is seeking damages. The specific details of the claim remain undisclosed.

Legal experts note that an Action of Damages for Wrong typically involves claims of civil liability arising from acts considered unlawful, negligent, or harmful.

The Bukonjedah Group of Companies is said to be headquartered at Rose Garden Plaza, Crown Hill, while Mr. Johns is listed as a resident of the Rehab Community, according to court filings.

Court officers are expected to submit a return detailing the manner and form in which the summons was served, also by October 3, 2025, as required by law.

The case has attracted attention from both legal and political observers, who anticipate a potentially high-profile proceeding given the public status of the plaintiff and the corporate nature of the defendants.

As of press time, neither Mr. Johns nor any representatives of the Bukonjedah Group have issued a statement regarding the lawsuit. Multiple attempts to reach them for comment were unsuccessful.
