The Sixth Judicial Circuit, Civil Law Court “Annex” for Montserrado County, has issued a writ of summons against the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police (LNP), Col. Gregory Coleman, citing him and those acting under his authority for contempt of court.
The summons, dated October 23, 2025, was issued under the authority of His Honor, Judge Peter W. Gbeneweleh, who currently presides over the September Term of the Civil Law Court.
According to the court’s order, Col. Coleman and his associates are commanded to appear before the court on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. to show because why they should not be held in contempt.
The alleged contempt stems from the respondents’ failure and refusal to appear before the court on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, for a scheduled conference hearing.
The missed conference was reportedly intended to address issues related to the enforcement of a Supreme Court mandate that had previously been served on the Liberia National Police.
In the writ, the court emphasizes that despite having been duly served with the precept, the respondents failed to honor the court’s citation, prompting judicial action.
The summons further directs Capt. Sieh Collins Jr., Sheriff of Montserrado County, or his deputy, to serve Col. Coleman and ensure their appearance at the designated time and date.
The Sheriff has also been instructed to return the writ to the court immediately after service, with an endorsed statement detailing how and when the summons was executed.
The writ bears the signature and seal of Alfred N. Mors, Clerk of Court, and Jefferson M. Thamba, whose endorsement authenticates the court’s mandate under seal dated October 23, 2025.
As the matter proceeds to hearing on October 27, public attention is expected to focus on how the court enforces its authority and whether the Liberia National Police leadership will comply with this latest judicial summons.
