Lofa County — The Commissioner of Wanhassa Administrative District, Hon. Varfolay F. Karva, has dismissed allegations of public fund misuse raised by the Mayor of Kolba City, Hon. Caroline M. Momo, clarifying that the amount under discussion has been misrepresented.
Speaking in a mobile phone interview with journalist Junior Salay, Commissioner Karva confirmed that he had earlier discussed funds allocated to Kolba City but strongly refuted claims that the amount involved was US$4,000.
According to the commissioner, the actual figure was US$2,000, which he said was part of a broader US$10,000 allocation provided by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr., during his first official visit to Kolba City Hall. The funds, he explained, were distributed among three districts.
“I did not tell her about US$4,000. I told her about US$2,000 that was given to her from the US$10,000 President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Sr. provided to the three districts during his first visit at the Kolba City Hall,” Commissioner Karva stated.
He further noted that the money was intended specifically for maintenance and improvement work at the Kolba City Hall. However, the commissioner expressed concern that the facility has not been adequately maintained, raising questions about how the funds were utilized.
The dispute has attracted significant attention from residents and local observers, many of whom say they are closely following the unfolding developments.
Several community members are now calling for greater transparency, accountability, and constructive dialogue among local authorities to prevent the disagreement from undermining peace and development in the district.
As tensions persist, stakeholders continue to urge calm and adherence to due process while awaiting further clarification on the matter.
