Construction of $4.7 Million CH Rennie Hospital Officially Begins in Margibi

Kakata, Margibi County — The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Margibi County Local Authority, has officially kickstarted the US$4.7 million CH Rennie Hospital construction project — the long-awaited state-of-the-art medical facility in the county.

The ceremony comes just days after Margibi County authorities raised concerns about being excluded from initial discussions surrounding the hospital’s reconstruction. Following those concerns, the Ministry of Health engaged county leaders and agreed to ensure full collaboration in the implementation of the project.

The new CH Rennie Hospital, which is expected to be completed within 36 months, will be constructed over a three-year period. Upon completion, the facility will have a 250-bed capacity and will feature a wide range of modern amenities aimed at significantly strengthening healthcare delivery in Margibi County and neighboring regions.

In addition to providing inpatient and outpatient services, the hospital will include a midwifery school to support the training of healthcare professionals, as well as residential quarters for nurses and doctors. Several specialized units are also planned as part of the facility, all designed to enhance service delivery and improve patient outcomes.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister for Administration at the Ministry of Health, Madam Martha Morris, described the project as a major milestone in the government’s efforts to rebuild and strengthen Liberia’s health infrastructure. She emphasized that the hospital’s strategic location makes it well-suited to serve as a key referral center for the region once completed.

The reconstruction of CH Rennie Hospital follows the destruction of the previous structure by fire in August 2021. Since then, healthcare services in Margibi County have faced significant challenges, highlighting the urgent need to restore the facility.
Authorities disclosed that the initial reconstruction plan was estimated at approximately US$8 million. However, following revised planning and cost adjustments, the project was scaled to US$4.7 million.

Margibi County Superintendent O. Jay Morris, speaking at the event, pledged the full support of the county leadership to ensure the successful completion of the project. He also expressed gratitude to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for prioritizing such a critical development initiative in the county.

When completed, the new CH Rennie Hospital is expected to significantly improve access to quality healthcare services in Margibi County and surrounding areas, representing a major step forward in Liberia’s ongoing health sector recovery efforts.
