Former Liberian International Footballer Theo Weeks Announces Plan to Run for President in 2029
Former Liberian International Footballer Theo Weeks has announced plans to contest the presidency of Liberia in the 2029 general elections, calling for what he describes as an end to the recycling of old politicians.
Speaking Tuesday in an interview with Spoon News, the former Liberia national football team midfielder said the country needs a new generation of leadership with fresh ideas and stronger accountability.
Weeks argued that the same political figures have dominated leadership for decades without delivering the level of transformation many Liberians expect. He pointed to ongoing challenges including unemployment, poor infrastructure, and limited opportunities.
The former Lone Star player said his vision focuses on youth empowerment, economic opportunities, education reform, and transparent governance.
Weeks also encouraged young Liberians to become more involved in national leadership and development.
